Norton 360

Norton Anti-Virus is probably the most used annual subscription anti-virus. Norton includes features
such as:

• E-mail virus scanner
• Messenger virus scanner
• Parental Controls
• Phishing Filter
• Popup Blocker
• Firewall

There are a few disadvantages to Norton Anti-Virus. This program uses a HUGE chunk of system
resources (it slows down your computer), causes the internet to launch more slowly (parental controls
have to be loaded each time it starts), and is has a yearly subscription fee (to get protection against new
threats).

Even with many disadvantages, there are many advantages. It is simple to use (easily set filters, etc.), and
can be used on up to 3 computers per subscription (some more, some less. It tells you on the box)

PC-Cillin/Trend Micro Internet Security (My suggestion for paid program)

PC-Cillin is one of the newer Anti-Virus programs on the market. PC-Cillin includes features such as:

• E-mail virus scanner
• Messenger virus scanner
• Parental Controls
• Phishing Filter
• Wireless Network Controls
• Remote Management of PC-Cillin on other computers
• Firewall
• Password Protection

The only disadvantage I can think of for this program is that there is a slightly higer annual fee than Norton
and most packages only cover 1 computer (some come with more licenses. It tells you on the box)

AVG Free (My Suggestion for free program)

AVG is the best FREE (that’s right – I said FREE!) Anti-Virus program available. There are other versions
of this program available for a yearly fee. AVG includes features such as:

• Website rating tool (good or bad reputation)
• E-mail virus scanner
• Messenger virus scanner
• Phishing Filter

I can’t think of any disadvantages for this product, but it has several advantages: does NOT slow down
computer – even when running a scan, it’s FREE, and is great for students and users of older computers.
Many schools are actually suggesting this Anti-Virus software to their students for use on their laptops!

McAfee

McAfee (mick-fee) is one of the most widely-known antivirus programs available today. It has proven itself as a major part of the IT world by protecting everything from personal computers as well as corporate computer’s for well over a decade.

• Parental Controls
• Phishing Filter
• Popup Blocker
• Firewall
• Anti-Spyware
• Anti-Spam

The problem with McAfee is that it costs a little more than some of the other major providers, but to make up for it, provides excellent anti-virus service to its users.
